Bali has been named the best destination in the world, according to TripAdvisor’s Travellers’ Choice Awards.
Bali beat the traditional tourist hotspots of London, Paris, Rome and New York City to gain first place in the prestigious list. 2017 is the first year that islands have been included in the awards; previously the rankings focused on predominantly urban areas.
Indonesia’s most famous island was described as a favourite destination for “both adventurers and those in need of a little relaxation”, with its white beaches, great diving and dense jungle treks contributing to its popularity.
In addition to the #1 spot overall, Bali was also among the top 10 hotels in the world as listed by TripAdvisor; the Mandapa, A Ritz Carlton Reserve in Ubud, Bali ranked at #2, just behind the Aria Hotel Budapest.
TripAdvisor is the world’s largest travel site — helping millions of tourists and travellers make the right choice when shopping for hotels, restaurants, attractions and destinations.
Now in its ninth year, the Travellers’ Choice Awards are based on algorithmic assessments that count the number of reviews and ratings logged by the public over a one-year period in combination with the number of Bali bookings made via TripAdvisor.
Bali’s victory in the annual ranking will help to put Indonesia on the map, drive arrivals and further strengthen Bali’s reputation as the world’s best holiday location.
