Batik Air has become the first airline to offer direct flights from Soekarno-Hatta International Airport in Jakarta, to Syukuran Aminuddin Amir Airport in Luwuk; a rising tourist destination in Central Sulawesi.

A subsidiary airline of Lion Air Group, Batik Air launched its first flight on the new route on Sunday, 26 May 2019 using an Airbus 320-200CEO that took off from Soekarno-Hatta Airport at 2:05 AM and landed at 06:05 AM local time in Luwuk. Upon arrival in Luwuk, Batik Air received a warm welcome with traditional dances, ribbon cutting and the release of a dove, marking the opening of the non-stop direct flight route.

Luwuk is a popular tourist destination in Central Sulawesi Province, offering many unique attractions. “To enjoy the beauty of Luwuk, you can start by visiting Bukit Kasih Sayang, Salodik Waterfall that is popular among local people or the lush green hills that resemble the Teletubbies Hills,” said Danang Mandala Prihantoro, the Corporate Communications Strategic of PT Lion Air. “The presence of Batik Air in Luwuk is expected to lure more millennial tourists to realise their dreams of exploring Sulawesi,” he continued.

In addition, visitors to Luwuk can enjoy stunning panoramic views from Bukit Kasih Sayang café, located on top of Keles Hill; relax at Salodik waterfall in Salodik Village, where they can find a beautiful forest with a cascading set of waterfalls; or explore Teletubbies hills in Lumpoknyo Village, which offers a wide expanse of captivating green hills.
