09 January 2017 | Written by Chris Alexander

Juanda International Airport (Surabaya) has been named as one of the world’s most reliable airports in terms of punctuality and departure times. The result comes from in-depth analysis and research conducted by the Institute of British Air Travel and was confirmed in January 2017.

Juanda International Airport, managed by PT Angkasa Pura I (Persero), is listed as the most punctual airport in the category of large airports (airports with 10-20 million passengers per year), with the level of on-time performance (OTP) reaching an average of 90.30%.

Second and third place in the same category went to Honolulu Airport (87.53%) and Salt Lake City Airport in the United States (87.2%), whilst Brasilia Airport in Brazil (87.07%), and the Brisbane Airport in Australia (86.71%) completed the top five.

Overall, Juanda finished in third place among all the airports included in the list of ‘OAG Punctuality League 2016’. Ranked first overall was Birmingham Airport with an OTP average of 91.28%. Birmingham was also ranked first in the category of medium-sized airports (5-10 million passengers per year), followed by Newcastle Airport (OTP 90.94%), which the most punctual of all small airports (2.5-5 million passengers per year).

“The successful performance of Juanda Airport in 2016 is a recognition from the international community of our focus on on-time performance as one of the relevant aspects of customer service. It is our hope this recognition will motivate other airports in the country to improve on-time performance in order to improve customer satisfaction, “said Director of Angkasa Pura I Danang S. Baskoro.

Following the upgrade to Indonesia’s aviation safety rating in August last year by the Federal Aviation Authority (FAA), this accolade is further evidence of Indonesia’s growing reputation for reliable service worldwide. Indonesia continues to go from strength to strength in the international aviation sector.
