Mt. Agung: Latest Update From Bali Tourism Board
27 September 2017 | Written by Chris Alexander

Denpasar, 27 September 2017. The Bali Tourism Board has released a statement confirming the current status of Mt. Agung volcano in Bali.

The statement, released late last night (26/9) confirms that the volcano has not yet erupted. At the time of writing, only seismic activity has been reported; no lava, ash or volcanic material has been released. The latest satellite images and video footage of Mount Agung confirm there has been no eruption.

However, due to the increasing frequency in tremors and seismic activity, an eruption is still considered to be imminent. All the necessary precautions are being taken; the Volcano Observatory Notice for Aviation continues to monitor the situation closely, in coordination with the VA Advisory in Darwin, Australia.

Bali Airport, I Gusti Ngurah Rai International, is operating as normal. Airline activities in Bali airspace remain unchanged, with passengers’ arrival and departure process maintained. There have been no reports of rushed departure for tourists. Ferries and fast boats between Bali and the neighbouring islands of Lombok and Java are also running according to their usual schedules.

The Bali Tourism Board are urging tour operators and travel agents who receive concerned queries from potential Bali visitors regarding the current situation to check the latest updates on their official website: http://www.BaliTourismBoard.or.id/page/crisis-center/

Tourists already in Bali are instructed to avoid the 12 km radius of Mount Agung summit for the time being. The Bali Tourism Board is directing assigned tourism professionals to support the coordination and timely delivery of donations from companies to those people in need.

The above information is taken from a statement made by Ida Bagus Agung Partha Adnyana of the Bali Tourism Board on 26 September 2017 at 12:00 local Bali time. Panorama Destination will continue to monitor developments in the current situation regarding Mount Agung, and provide updates as soon as new information becomes available. click here to download the official statement (from the press release).
