07 August 2017 | Written by Chris Alexander

Qatar Airways has been named ‘Airline of the Year’ by the 2017 Skytrax World Airline Awards in Paris.

In addition to being voted Best Airline by travellers from around the world, Qatar’s national carrier also received several other major awards at the ceremony, including Best Airline in the Middle East, World’s Best Business Class and World’s Best First Class Airline Lounge.

Hamad International Airport, which serves as Qatar Airways’ home and hub, also received a five-star rating by Skytrax. The airport is one of only five in the world to have achieved this illustrious grade.

Qatar Airways’ global reputation was confirmed and consolidated by the 2017 awards, having won the titles of World’s Best Business Class, Best Business Class Lounge and Best Airline Staff Service in the Middle East at last year’s ceremony.

Qatar Airways is the state-owned flag carrier of Qatar. The airline operates a fleet of more than 180 aircraft, linking no fewer than 150 international destinations across Africa, Central Asia, Europe, the Far East, South Asia, the Middle East, North America, South America and Oceania.

The airline has now won the “World’s Best Airline” award a total of four times.
