Malaysia Welcomes Ramadan 2018 With Iftar@Kuala Lumpur

Iftar@Kuala Lumpur is an annual fasting and celebrations programme hosted in Malaysia that enables visitors and locals alike to gather and break their fast against the backdrop of beautiful dusk scenery in the capital city of Kuala Lumpur.

Organised by the National Department of Culture and Arts (JKKN), Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) and the Department of Islamic Development Malaysia (JAKIM), the event sets out to create spiritual awareness in the month of Ramadan through a series of activities open to the public.

This year the event celebrates its seventh year, with Iftar@Kuala Lumpur 2018 being held at Jalan Raja, Kuala Lumpur (in front of Sultan Abdul Samad Building) over six weekends: May 26 & 27, June 2 & 3, June 9 (’7 Likur Night’ organised by DBKL) & June 10.

Highlights of this year’s event include the preparation, exhibition and distribution of the Bubur Lambuk (special congee); Umrah package products; Tadarus Al-Quran; Tazkirah Ramadan; volunteerism; Al-Quran Tahsin Clinic (Tajweed classes); civil service counters; food sale by food trucks; Zakat payment counter; breaking fast, or ‘Iftar’; congregational prayers (Maghrib, Isya’ and Tarawih); Ramadan Talk; Ramadan Concert; and Moreh (night feast).

Various well-known artists and Nasyeed groups, including Sharifah Khasif Fadzillah Badiuzzaman, Hijjaz, UNIC, Raihan and many others are set to perform at Iftar@Kuala Lumpur. Ramadan talks will be given by Sahibul SamahahYBhg. Datuk Dr. Zulkifli Mohamad Al-Bakri (Federal Territory Mufti), YBhg. Dato’ Ustazah Siti Nor Bahyah Mahamood, YBhg. Datuk Ustaz Kazim Elias, YBhg. Dato’ Ustaz Badlishah Bin Alauddin, YBhg. Dato’ Dr. Haji Mohd Fadzillah Kamsah and PU Azman.

This year, JAKIM will also provide a portable Musholla for visitors’ convenience, allowing them to perform their prayers. In addition, on the ‘7 Likur Night’, DBKL will erect a display of oil lamps to light up Jalan Raja. Iftar@Kula Lumpur also involves the JKKN Culture Volunteers and the Voluntourism under the Ministry of Tourism and Culture.
