World’s Longest Water Slide to Open in Penang
27 June 2019 | Written by Chris Alexander

After years of planning and construction, the biggest water slide in the world will soon open to the public at ESCAPE Theme Park in the Malaysian island of Penang. Scheduled to open in August 2019, the slide stands at a massive 3,740 feet (1,140m) in length and takes a full four minutes to slide from top to bottom.

But there is more to the slide than meets the eye. According to the park’s chief executive officer, Sim Choo Kheng, the main focus of the water slide is environmental protection. To that end, the installation of the water slide has been completed manually, without the use of heavy machinery or any significant damage to trees in the local area. The natural surroundings of the park are seen as a key facet of the experience, so eco-friendly construction of the slide was essential.

With a slide of this size, even reaching the summit is set to be an adventure in its own right. “A 400m-long cable car ride with 30 seats will also be completed at the same time as the water slide,” said Sim Choo Kheng. “The cable car connects the foothills with the water slide. It is unique as it goes through the jungle,” he added.

The park believes that in order to protect nature, people should fall in love with it. ESCAPE Theme Park encourages a passion for nature through fun attractions and installations. Guinness Book of World Records confirmed their latest creation as the longest water slide in the world.
