Top 10: Bars & Clubs in Bali

Most of the best nightclubs in Bali are located within the Kuta and Seminyak area, whilst a great selection of beachfront and rooftop bars has sprung up all over the island’s major tourism hotspots. Kuta’s reasonable prices and laid-back party atmosphere makes it popular with western tourists, backpackers and first-timers to the island. Regular travellers to Bali, including expats and Indonesians from Jakarta tend to prefer Seminyak, where the clubs and bars are a little more chic and upmarket. Depending on your preference for music, atmosphere, food, drink and company, Bali’s famous nightlife has options to suit all tastes and budgets. In this article, we feature ten of the best hotspots available, giving a flavour of the many tastes and experiences to be had in the neon nightlife of Bali.

3. La Favela, Seminyak

If you’re looking to dine, drink or dance, La Favela is the place to be. Here you can rub shoulders with an international crowd, and hit the dance floor at weekly late night house parties, from 22:30 through to the early morning. International DJs such as David Herrera and resident DJ ‘Funktastic’ Maick Rodriguez play disco, funk, R&B, hip-hop and anything of the 60s, 70s and 80s. A big attraction is the funky décor - there’s an old ‘kombi’ van that’s been turned into a bar, along with a mini replica of Christ the Redeemer that looks over everyone and, along with a menu that’s bursting with tapas and cocktails, brings a taste of Rio to Bali.

8. Mirror, Seminyak

Mirror opened in Bali in early 2015. Owned by the All-In group, which is also responsible for the popular Fable Club in Jakarta, Mirror is arguably the trendiest place in Bali at the moment, meaning it’s crowded most nights. The venue’s interiors and overall design looks like a Gothic cathedral, but with glittery mosaic-like wall décor, stained glass windows and towering ceilings that are matched with futuristic laser lighting systems, giving you one of the coolest and most immersive spaces to dance your late evenings away to industrial, deep bass, house and hip-hop music.

10. The Howff, Nusa Lembongan

Our final recommendation is way off the beaten track and completely out of left field, but it takes its place on this list on merit and for pure novelty value. The Howff is a Scottish-inspired whisky, gin and wine bar, hidden away in a cove on the Beach of Nusa Lembongan, to the southeast of the main island of Bali. Here you’ll find a wide selection of Islay, Lowland, Highland, Speyside and Island single malts, along with several Japanese varieties. An international collection of gins is served in the Spanish style, with house-dried garnishes to complement the unique gin botanicals. A little taste of Bali to enhance the gins, enjoyed purely on their own or with a tonic, these are more than just your standard juniper berry gin. The Howff is the perfect place to enjoy some of the finer things in life, in a location that’s as incongruous as it is incomparable. Like a pirate’s buried treasure, this quirky tavern in the tropics is well worth a voyage.
