23 July 2020 | Written by Chris Alexander

Viking Cruises have announced they will launch a new ship, named Viking Saigon, in time for next summer. Part of the already popular Magnificent Mekong cruise tour, the new vessel will sail between Kampong Cham in Cambodia and Vietnam’s Ho Chi Minh City (Saigon).

Scheduled to make its maiden voyage on 30th August 2021, the Viking Saigon will have room for 80 guests, with 40 outside staterooms in a clean and stylish Scandinavian design. All staterooms will feature hotel-style beds and floor-to-ceiling sliding glass doors with a Veranda or French Balcony. Guests on the three-deck Viking Saigon will also be able to enjoy a spa & fitness centre, infinity pool and open-air sky bar on the upper deck.

“This will be the most modern vessel on the Mekong and will feel like ‘home’ to our loyal Viking guests,” explains Torstein Hagen, who is chairman of Viking.  “We have led the river cruise industry with our fleet development and experiences that bring travellers closer to the cultures of the world for more than two decades,” he added.

During a 15-day journey, guests will be able to explore the cultural treasures of Vietnam and Cambodia. Combined with hotel stays in Hanoi, Siem Reap and Ho Chi Minh City (Saigon), the Mekong River Cruise includes shopping in Old Hanoi’s markets and exploration at Angkor Wat, along with various silk towns, fishing villages, monasteries and floating markets. Multiple departure dates are available, setting sail in August 2021.
