What to Expect

Flores island in East Nusa Tenggara province is one of Indonesia’s Lesser Sunda Islands. Situated to the east of Sumbawa and Komodo island and southeast of Timor; Flores sits just across the Sumba Strait from Sumba island. To the north, beyond the Flores Sea is Sulawesi. Flores island, whose name is derived from the Portuguese colonists’ word for ‘flowers’, is the 10th biggest island in Indonesia.

Dotted by volcanoes that are often surrounded by terraced valleys, then ringed by glorious beaches, the island of Flores is a fabulous destination for adventurers, nature lovers and explorers. This package takes you to one of the eight wonders of Flores, the isolated village of Wae Rebo. Designed for travelers who would like to delve deeper into the Flores countryside prior to their journey to discover the biggest reptile on earth, the package allows you to discover the unique circular cone-shaped housing called Mbaru Niang and to experience the daily lives in an authentic Manggaraian village nestled in an isolated mountain scenery.

What You Will Do

Day 1

Arrival Labuan Bajo – Todo – Dintor

Begin your trip with the first flight of the day to Komodo Airport in Labuan Bajo on the island of Flores in East Nusa Tenggara province. Meet and greet at the airport then a chaeuffeurred vehicle with guide escort takes you towards the heart of the Manggarai region. During the journey, stop at the villages of Lembor, Todo and Dintor to witness the local life and to admire the panoramic views of the surrounding area (lunch en route in a local restaurant). Arrive at the lodge, check in and unwind from the long drive.

Day 2

Dintor – Trekking to Wae Rebo

After light breakfast, get ready for approximately 4-hour trek to the remarkable Manggarai village of Wae Rebo; the last authentic traditional Manggarai village located about 1,100 meters above sea level, some 108 kilometres from labuan Bajo nestled in the middle of panoramic mountains and the dense Todo forest that is rich with vegetation. A challenging seven kilometres trek uphill for adventurous and physically fit, the path can get quite slippery after the rain. Be sure to stay hydrated and keep your sunscreen as well as rain poncho handy. During the trek you'll be rewarded with amazing views of the sea below and perfectly triangular Mount Inerie, as well as diverse jungle foliage and frequent sightings of tropical butterflies, birds and monkeys.

Keep in mind not to take any photos as you approach the village as a gesture of politeness, all visitors need to undergo a welcoming ceremony at the main drum house to placate the spirits before they can start snapping away. The structures of the Mbaru Niang, seven cone-shaped traditional houses built from bamboo, wood and grass are recognized by UNESCO as a form of living testament to Flores’ history. Immerse yourself in the daily lives of villagers in the village that was built some 100 years ago and discover the specific purpose of the five levels housing. Later in the afternoon, a short trek takes you to a waterfall. Marvel at the amazing natural beauty then return to the village for simple dinner provided. Sleeping mattresses provided for your stay.

Day 3

Wae Rebo – Labuan Bajo

Enjoy breakfast at the village, then it is time to say goodbye. Start trekking downhill and take a short stop to visit a pristine beach. Rest and relax at the beach, lunch is provided. Afterwards, continue your journey back to Labuan Bajo on a chaeuffeured vehicle. Check-in at a hotel and the remainder of the evening is free at your own leisure with dinner provided.

Day 4

Departure Labuan Bajo

Enjoy breakfast at the hotel and check out afterwards. You will be picked up at the hotel lobby at the designated time depending on your flight schedule. Proceed directly to Komodo Airport for your onward journey with wonderful memories of your visit.

The lodge comprises of stage house supported with concrete base topped with wooden materials for the walls made it environmentally friendly. The accommodation totals 7 comprising of double, twin and triple rooms, managed in a very basic, but clean and environment-friendly way.

Located along Labuan Bajo Beach, The Jayakarta Suites Komodo Flores offers luxurious accommodation surrounded by tropical greenery. It features a dive club offering programs for divers of all levels. Free return airport transfer is available.
