What to Expect

Java is the historical lodestone of Indonesia; a magical and storied island that's steeped in culture and shrouded in mysticism. A powerhouse on the modern stage, Java traces its influence back through the centuries in its artistry, traditions and architecture. Cresting a mountainous ridge on the ring of fire, this is an explosive land of fire, stone and spices, where ancient and brooding volcanoes have witnessed the rise and fall of civilizations, sultanates and empires. This extension programme takes you to the two most dramatic and awe-inspiring volcanic craters in Java: Bromo and Ijen. You will experience the majestic beauty of sunrise at Bromo, and scale the otherworldly moonscape of Ijen's Crater Lake, where magical blue sulphur flames burn through the night

What You Will Do

Day 1

Surabaya Arrival - Cemorolawang

(No Meals)

Upon arrival, meet and greet with your local guide and transfer direct to Cemorolawang. The road gets steep in parts of the journey, offering up some awe-inspiring scenery. Arrive at Cemorolawang to check in. In the late afternoon, take time to meet some local villagers and enjoy the sunset at Metigen Point. Back to your hotel and enjoy the evening free at leisure.

Day 2

Bromo Sunrise - Malang

(B/-/-)

Depart from your resort at 4.00 am in a 4x4 jeep and make your way to Penanjakan Viewpoint for sunrise over the Bromo caldera. Descend the wide open crater to Pasir Berbisik, explore this mesmerising landscape of sand, savannah and volcanic smoke and ride a pony to the foot of Mount Bromo. Next, visit Coban Pelangi Waterfall, before returning to the resort for breakfast and check-out. Transfer to your hotel in Malang via a number of temples, then enjoy time at leisure.

Overnight at Santika Hotel Malang

Day 3

Malang - Jember (TUMPAK SEWU and CAVE TETES)

(B/-/-)

After breakfast, check out from your hotel and set off on a soft trek into the jungle. Travel to Tumpak Sewu Waterfall before the sun rises. Here, thirty different waterfalls plummet down into the pools below. Just around the corner, another waterfall called Goa Tetes is another incredible spot; essentially a collection of caves and waterfalls all the way up the cliff face. It's a good idea to wear sturdy shoes here, as the paths can get a bit slippery.
