A brand-new beachside resort is set to open on Bali’s south coast. COMO Hotels and Resorts have announced they will open COMO Uma Canggu this February. COMO Uma Canggu is the travel group’s third property on Bali and their 14th in total, with other locations including Miami Beach, Bhutan, Western Australia and Bangkok.
Located in Canggu, away from the Kuta crowds in a coastal village just seven miles from neighbouring Seminyak, the property is home to six miles of long sandy beach spread out across 2.2 acres of land. COMO Uma Canggu itself is comprised of rooms, suites, one- and two-bedroom residences and three-bedroom duplex penthouses with individual rooftop pools.
Canggu is home to a growing, but as-yet unspoiled surf scene, with excellent curling breaks and a carefree vibe. Here guests can enjoy waves just outside their door. Experienced riders can take on some of the best tubes on Bali’s west coast, whilst longboarders will love Old Man’s beach, with its 10ft swell and big open face. Beginners can mix up surf tuition, yoga and spa with hours in a sun lounger at the new COMO Beach Club that forms the hub of the resort. More adventurous surfers can spend the whole day on empty breaks reachable only by boat.
The design team at Uma Canggu have worked with COMO before; Koichiro Ikebuchi worked on COMO’s two Bali locations (COMO Uma Ubud was his first resort project) and Paola Navone designed COMO Point Yamu, Phuket, and COMO Metropolitan Miami Beach. Landscape designer Trevor Hillier has also worked with COMO in the Caribbean, Bali and Bhutan. The team describe their work on COMO Uma Canggu as “demonstrative of modern Asian architecture: low-lying, sleek and contemporary.â€
