01 August 2018 | Written by Chris Alexander

From 3-4 August 2018, the city of Solo in Central Java will play host to Harmoni Pasar Klewer; an annual festival featuring music, exhibitions, traditional markets, a bazaar, art installations and activities for children. The event, which is geared towards promoting Solo as a tourism destination, represents a collaborative effort between BRI Bank, Java Festival Production and the Indonesian Tourism Ministry.

One of the goals of the event is to introduce and promote the idea of a ‘cashless society’, through a range of attractions, experiences and retail outlets that are facilitated by new technology from some of Indonesia’s leading innovators in the finance and banking sector. This unique and interesting concept adds a modern element to the blend of classic and contemporary attractions laid out for festival goers.

Harmoni’s music stage will host performances of various styles of music from around Indonesia, featuring many household names and several rising stars from all corners of the archipelago. Confirmed acts include Raisa, Via Vallen, Tulus, Glen Fredly, Ipank Lazuardi, Kahitna, GAC, Andra & The Backbone, Papua Original and Dwiki Dharmawan.

The festival’s bazaar, market and exhibition spaces will showcase products from around Solo, such as accessories, clothing and handicrafts – all provided by local businesses both big and small. In addition, the finest in local cuisine will be served up at the culinary festival, including such authentic Solo classics as nasi liwet, sate kere, timlo, tengkleng, dawet and ronde.

Organisers have described the event as the perfect showcase of Solo’s amenities, attractions, culture, heritage and history; for visitors to the centre of Java this weekend, it’s sure to be a unique opportunity to enjoy Solo at its very best.
