Indonesia showcased the diversity of its cultural heritage in the “Cultural Experience” program, a side event of the Archipelagic and Island States (AIS) Forum Summit 2023 held on Oct. 11, 2023 at the Bali Nusa Dua Theatre in Badung, Bali.
The guest arrival was greeted with the Puspanjali traditional Balinese dance, extending a warm welcome to the guests to the “Island of the Gods”.
Deputy minister Angela accompanied the spouses of the AIS Forum Summit delegates into the theater to watch Devdan Show: Treasure of the Archipelago, a theatrical performance inspired by the unique culture of Bali.
The Devdan Show presents the diverse cultures from across the Indonesian archipelago in a single production that combines acrobatics and contemporary dance, inspired by Indonesia’s enchanting culture.
During the performance, the deputy minister and her VIP guests joined the performers in the Enggang Dance, a traditional dance that hails from the Dayak Kenyah ethnic community of East Kalimantan.
Following Devdan Show: Treasure of the Archipelago, deputy tourism minister Angela invited the spouses of the AIS Forum Summit delegates to lunch at Bebek Bengil Restaurant, which specializes in traditional Balinese duck and chicken dishes.
Deputy minister Angela said the Cultural Experience program provided an opportunity for Indonesia to promote its diverse tourism sector and creative industries to the world through the AIS Forum Summit.
“We have organized two activities, the first being the grand theatrical performance Devdan, which presents diverse Indonesian cultures from Bali to Sumatra, Java, Kalimantan and Papua. The second introduces Balinese cuisine,” she said.
The deputy tourism minister expressed her hope that Indonesia’s tourism and creative economy would gain more recognition and advancement through the Cultural Experience program. She also expressed her wish that the AIS Forum Summit 2023, involving participants from 51 archipelagic and island nations, would contribute to global inclusivity and sustainability.
“Through the AIS Forum Summit, we expect better solidarity and synergy among archipelagic and island nations for a more inclusive and sustainable future,” Angela said.
The deputy tourism minister was accompanied by Secretary of the Tourism and Creative Ministry, Ni Wayan Giri Adnyani. The program also saw the attendance of officials from the Office of the Coordinating Ministry for Maritime Affairs and Investment, the State Secretariat, the Foreign Ministry and the Bali provincial administration.
