Malaysia Airlines has confirmed they will commence operations on a new route to Surabaya in East Java. The inaugural flight is scheduled for 29 October 2017.

The new flights will depart four times every week from Malaysia’s capital city of Kuala Lumpur. The airline’s B738-800 aircraft, offering a capacity of 160 seats, will operate the journey to and from Surabaya. The aircraft is configured with 16 Business Class and 144 Economy Class seats.

“We are excited to resume direct flights to Surabaya to serve the city’s growing tourist demands,” Malaysia Airlines’ Chief Executive Officer, Peter Bellew, said in a statement.

“As the second largest city of Indonesia Surabaya, also known as the ‘City of Heroes’, is rich with cultural and historical sites. This route expansion will provide superior connectivity with direct flights operating four times weekly to and from Kuala Lumpur to the second busiest airport in Indonesia. With Surabaya added into our network, customers will be able to explore the tourist attractions in both eastern Java and Malaysia from October this year,” Bellew added.

Malaysia Airlines currently flies to three Indonesian destinations from Kuala Lumpur. This latest flight schedule is expected to further enhance the number of foreign tourist arrivals coming to Indonesia over the coming months.
