Recognising Excellence: Tourism Business Leader Awards 2022
28 April 2022 | Written by Chris Alexander

Last month, Indonesia celebrated the second annual Tourism Business Leader Awards, as major players in the sector looked back on a year in which leadership was a much-needed and laudable quality. Conceived by the Indonesia Travel Tourism Award (ITTA) Foundation, the awards recognise properties, groups and individuals who are leading the way in the hospitality business.

Hyatt Regency Yogyakarta won Best Resort, while their general manager, named Nurcahyadhi, was also named Business Leader. Representatives of the hotel collected both awards at a ceremony held in Surabaya on Wednesday, 30 March.

“This award further confirms that Hyatt Regency Yogyakarta, which is equipped with a golf course, tropical garden and more than 30 resort activities, has become a favourite staycation destination choice in Yogyakarta and Indonesia,” explained Nurcahyadhi, upon collecting his Business Leader award at the ceremony.

Other winners included Ryan Adrian, President Director of PT Indonesia International Expo (IIE), which was named Best MICE Venue. The IIE owns and operates the Indonesia Convention Exhibition centre (ICE), Hotel Santika Premiere ICE BSD and the IIG Events venue; under Adrian’s leadership, ICE alone has hosted more than 2,000 national and international events since 2015.

“This is all a result of the contributions, dedication and hard work of the entire team,” said Adrian upon collecting the award, before looking ahead to the future. “This award will also be a motivation for IIE to continue to provide the best service in the MICE industry,” he added.

Founded in 2011, IIE is a joint venture between two leading companies, namely Kompas-Gramedia Group and Sinar Mas Group. The company was set up specifically to explore the potential of Indonesia’s growing MICE sector.

Located in the north of Yogyakarta, Hyatt Regency Yogyakarta is a 22-hectare resort that is home to 269 rooms and features a multi-level swimming pool with a 70-metre water slide, along with a range of unique and family-friendly activities. These include pillow fighting, fishing, slacklining, cycling, tennis, yoga, night driving range, ping pong, frisbee and boomerang.

The Tourism Business Leader Awards from ITTA acknowledge excellence among industry leaders, especially those who contribute to elevating tourism in Indonesia. Winners are determined by the Board of Advisors on the East Java Tourism Summit and Research Desk Partners at Binus Business School.
