Tourism Malaysia Named Top National Tourism Organisation of 2022
28 December 2022 | Written by Chris Alexander

2022 proved to be a breakout year for Malaysia, demonstrated by the country’s growing reputation among travellers and a string of tourism awards on the international stage. True to form, Malaysia closed out the year with one of the biggest gongs to date, as Tourism Malaysia came home from the Travel & Tourism Awards with the prestigious title of National Tourism Organisation of the Year.

Held at the Artotel Suites Mangkulur Hotel in Jakarta, Indonesia, the 13th annual International Travel & Tourism Awards (ITTA) recognise the best and brightest in the travel industry, with a total of 45 awards covering hotels, resorts, suites, villas, tourism agencies, travel agents, tourist attractions and other tourism stakeholders. The event’s tagline is “Awarding the Best, Inspiring the Rest.”

“Through this recognition, Tourism Malaysia aims to further restore the confidence among the industry players to continue promoting and selling Malaysia’s attractions and tourism products,” said Tourism Malaysia in a statement after collecting the award, which was presented to Mr. Junus Suhid, the Overseas Director for Tourism Malaysia Jakarta Office.

Dato’ Zainuddin Abdul Wahab is the Director General of Tourism Malaysia, who also paid tribute to colleagues at Tourism Malaysia for their tireless efforts in promoting the nation through mainstream and social media platforms, particularly with news outlets and media partners in neighbouring Indonesia.

“For the Indonesian market,” he continued, “Tourism Malaysia Jakarta is optimistic to receive more than 1,000,000 pax Indonesian tourists visiting Malaysia for the year 2022 since its international border reopening on 1st April 2022.” Having outstripped expectations for visitor numbers in 2022, Malaysia is already looking ahead to a busy and prosperous New Year.

Organised by the ITTA Foundation, the ITTA awards have taken place every year since 2010. The event sets out to raise awareness and build capacity among the various brands serving the Indonesian and international markets. This is the third time Tourism Malaysia has been named Best National Tourism Organisation by the awards, having also won in the two previous years (2019 and 2021). The 2022 ‘three-peat’ cements the organisation’s reputation as one of the very best in the business.
