02 March 2023 | Written by Chris Alexander

From 17 to 19 March, Tourism Malaysia will host the Malaysian Association of Tour and Travel Agents (MATTA) Fair. This three-day event is expected to draw hundreds of thousands of visitors and offers travel operators from around the world a chance to expand their networks.

Held at Malaysia International Trade and Exhibition Centre (Mitec) in Kuala Lumpur, the event will open from 10am-9pm from Friday to Sunday and will be free to enter. Various States Tourism Organisations (STO) such as Kedah, Penang, Perak, Selangor, Kuala Lumpur, Putrajaya, Melaka, Johor, Pahang, Terengganu, Sarawak and Sabah are expected to attend.

“Tourism Malaysia is ramping up their promotional efforts by participating in the largest consumer fair to attract more holidaymakers and showcase exciting local destinations through our diversity of culture and heritage,” explained MATTA Fair March 2023 organising chairman Rocky Kho, in a recent statement to the media.

Kho added, “MATTA Fair’s partnership with Tourism Malaysia is considered a pivotal source of economic growth, which serves as a catalyst for tourism development and continues to be one of the largest contributors to the national account; similarly, the participation from Tourism Malaysia creates more opportunities to promote Malaysia as a top-of-mind tourist destination since our country has much more to offer.”

The theme of this year’s event is ‘Nature and Adventure’, with many stakeholders on-hand to showcase the best outdoor and experiential travel options available nationwide. From holiday packages to theme park tickets, Tourism Malaysia expects to generate sales of RM1.5mil at the fair, while also providing a boost to tourism and trade networks through new collaborations and access to representation from emerging source markets.

The MATTA Fair takes place twice a year, and attracts more than 100,000 visitors. The Tourism Malaysia Pavilion will occupy 46 booths at the ground level (Level 1) of the fair.
