IHG Luxury Brand Makes Bangkok Debut
27 January 2021 | Written by Chris Alexander

InterContinental Hotels Group’s (IHG) have opened their first Southeast Asia property under the luxury lifestyle brand Kimpton. The Kimpton Maa-Lai Bangkok becomes the first of its kind in the region, blazing a trail for regional expansion to Malaysia, Bali and beyond in the months ahead.

The Kimpton Maa-Lai Bangkok features a total of 362 rooms and includes 131 spacious apartments. Entry-level rooms begin at a generous 48 square metres, while the largest – a family suite – covers 167 square metres. Room facilities include luxurious walk-in closets and chic amenities such as Dyson hairdryers, Vifa Bluetooth speakers and Nepresso machine as standard. These modern comforts are complimented by cosy flourishes in the design, such as locally sourced artwork.

Located next to the Sindhorn Kempinski in Bangkok’s upmarket Lang Suan neighbourhood, Kimpton Maa-Lai is conveniently close to the verdant surroundings of nearby Lumpini Park. Inside the hotel itself, guests are met by grand and eye-catching design features, such as the enormous wooden reception block, set tastefully against a white embroidered wall. From the moment of check-in, visitors are treated to superior service and a superb environment.

This extends to the hotel’s thorough yet unobtrusive safety measures; certified by the Amazing Thailand Safety and Health Administration, the Kimpton provides sanitizers in convenient locations throughout the hotel, improving guests’ safety without unduly impacting their stay.

The hotel’s F&B outlets include CRAFT, an all-day lobby bar serving up speciality coffees, craft beers and cocktails; and Yard, which is a modern day-to-night urban rooftop garden and bar. In addition, Ms Jigger is a restaurant and cocktail bar, where guests can enjoy a more intimate meal, courtesy of the hotel’s Italian head chef.

Other facilities include an infinity saltwater pool, a gym and The Amarath Spa by Harnn, home to a range of therapies and treatments. Another unique feature of the Kimpton is their pet-friendly policy; visitors are welcome to bring their four-legged friends at no extra charge. With its combination of casual, chic and cosmopolitan, IHG’s newest Kimpton hotel is perfectly placed to be one of the most popular newcomers in Bangkok’s growing luxury sector in 2021.

First founded in San Francisco in 1981, Kimpton Hotels & Restaurants are renowned for thoughtful perks and amenities, inventive meetings and events, bold and playful design, and a sincerely personal style of guest service. Part of the IHG brand, they currently operate 75 hotels worldwide, with a further 32 in the pipeline.

Kimpton’s first Southeast Asia property forms part of the brand’s mission to go global in 2021, expanding their range of individually designed and positioned boutique hotels and restaurants to stellar locations around the world. Kimpton will continue its regional momentum in the months ahead, with new properties coming to Bali in April 2021, and Malaysia in 2023.
