India Plays Host to Amazing Thailand Fest 2022
02 December 2022 | Written by Chris Alexander

From 25-27 November, Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) hosted Amazing Thailand Fest 2022 in New Delhi, as part of recent efforts to drum up interest among travellers in India – traditionally one of the kingdom’s biggest and most important source markets for inbound tourism.

“The Amazing Thailand Fest in New Delhi is part of TAT’s strategy to promote and strengthen Thailand as a top holiday destination for Indian travellers,” explained Mr. Tanes Petsuwan, TAT Deputy Governor for International Marketing – Asia and the South Pacific, during the festival. “The event also celebrates 75 years of Thai-Indian relations since 1947,” he added.

The festival is aligned with TAT’s ‘Visit Thailand Year 2022: Amazing New Chapters’ campaign, which aims to showcase the kingdom’s best offerings on the world stage. This includes the so-called 5Fs: food, film, festival, fight and fashion.

To that end, Amazing Thailand Fest featured a wide array of popular Thai cuisine, while also  highlighting iconic Thai locations that have provided the backdrop for popular Bollywood films. The event also featured a fashion show, cultural parades and performances of traditional Thai dance and martial arts demonstrations, along with various other competitions, interactive installations and prize giveaways.

Held at Select Citywalk Mall in Saket, New Delhi, Amazing Thailand Fest 2022 officially kicked off on 25 November, with an opening ceremony hosted by H.E. Ms. Pattarat Hongtong, Thailand’s Ambassador to India; and Mr. Tanes Petsuwan, from TAT. Also present were Mr. Chattan Kunjara Na Ayudhya, TAT Deputy Governor for Marketing Communications; and officials and figures from Team Thailand, including the Thai Trade Centre in New Delhi.

As one of Thailand’s biggest source markets, India has been identified as vital to the kingdom’s tourism revival. This recovery is already well underway – since 1 January 2022, a total of 743,336 Indian travellers have made the trip, with a total of 900,000 to 1 million expected by the end of the year.
