New Builds and Acquisitions: InterContinental Hotels Group Outlines Expansion Plan

InterContinental Hotels Group (IHG) has confirmed plans to build or redevelop eight properties in Thailand this year. The properties are located in Pattaya, Rayong, Phuket, Khao Lak and Samui respectively, and will be assigned to various brands owned by IHG. Branded as Holiday Inn, Holiday Inn Express and Staybridge Suites brands, the new folio of properties will comprise a mix of new builds and conversions, that will collectively add 2,000 more rooms to IHG’s presence in Thailand.

The upgrades, expansion and new build projects are as follows: Holiday Inn Express Pattaya on Larn island, will constitute a conversion of the old Sealay Resort Koh Lam property and is due to open this year; Holiday Inn Resort Koh Larn is a new-build Holiday Inn, located right on Na Ban Beach, approximately five minutes’ drive from Na Ban public pier; Holiday Inn Resort Pattaya Na Jomtien is a beachfront property, located conveniently close to Cartoon Network Waterpark; Staybridge Suites North Pattaya is a new-build, showcasing a brand that is hitherto unknown in Southeast Asia; Holiday Inn Resort Rayong is a new build, located on Mae Rum Pueng Beach just 45 minutes by car from U-Tapao International Airport; Holiday Inn Resort Khao Lak Cape Pakarang is a new build; as are Holiday Inn Express Phuket Kata and Holiday Inn Express Samui Chaweng.

InterContinental Hotels Group currently has 24 hotels in Thailand divided across five brands – InterContinental®, Crowne Plaza®, Holiday Inn®, Holiday Inn Express®, Hotel Indigo®. An additional 14 hotels are slated to open in the next three to five years under the IHG brand umbrella, including the launch of Staybridge Suites.
