12 March 2018 | Written by Chris Alexander

Family-focused Mövenpick Asara Resort & Spa Hua Hin is set to become the brand’s seventh overall property in Thailand. Located right on Hua Hin beach, Mövenpick’s newest property is described as a luxury 5-star suite and villa resort that’s perfect for romantic or family getaways. The brand-new resort in Hua Hin is one of 11 new Mövenpick properties scheduled to open in 2018, expanding their portfolio through nine different countries worldwide.

“In 2018, our global expansion drive really steps up a gear, with the 11 new openings planned, putting us firmly on track to meet our target of 125 properties by 2020 and introducing the Mövenpick brand in some very desirable locations,” confirmed Olivier Chavy (below), president & CEO, Mövenpick Hotels & Resorts.

Mövenpick already has hotels in Asia, Europe, Africa and the Middle East. This latest raft of new properties from the company represents its debut in five new markets – Bangladesh, Iraq, Kenya, Malaysia and the Maldives – while also adding to its existing portfolio of hotels in the United Arab Emirates, Egypt, Tunisia and Thailand.

In addition, the group has already laid out long-term global strategies for 40 additional properties over the next two years, serving several new markets such as Muscat (Oman) and Ras Al Khaimah (United Arab Emirates) in the Middle East; and Abidjan  (Côte d’Ivoire), Addis Ababa  (Ethiopia) and Abuja (Nigeria) in Africa.

Since its creation in 1973, the Swiss hospitality group has expanded its portfolio to a total of 20,000 rooms in 83 hotels worldwide. Mövenpick currently handles approximately 7.5 million guests annually. With these latest expansion plans already proceeding at pace, and more to come in the near future, the company is well on its way to meeting its target of 125 properties in operation by 2020.
