Thai food is famous throughout the world, and is as varied as the country itself. The latest Michelin Guide to Thailand adds new chapters to the story of culinary travel in the kingdom, bringing new destinations and new flavours to the table in 2025.
On 28 November, the Michelin Guide Ceremony in Bangkok marked the official launch of the latest guide, which features upscale restaurants, humble food stalls and unmissable festivals in locations such as Bangkok, Phuket, Phang-Nga, Chiang Mai, Ayutthaya, Nakhon Ratchasima, Khon Kaen, Ubon Ratchathani, Udon Thani, Ko Samui and Surat Thani. A new addition to the 2025 Guide is Chon Buri Province.
This new Michelin guide is broader than ever before, which is a tribute to the sheer diversity of Thailand’s culinary landscape. The ceremony on 28 November featured various awards, as restaurants and chefs were officially recognised with coveted Michelin Star status. In a development that’s indicative of Thailand’s ongoing transition to more sustainable tourism, a number of these experts also received Green Stars; an annual award which highlights restaurants at the forefront of responsible practices.
According to the Michelin website, Green Stars are only bestowed on restaurants who “embody and embrace sustainability in their day-to-day operations, through efforts including recycling, food waste reduction or promotion of local and seasonal ingredient sourcing.” Winners of these awards are selected based on extensive research and data collected from nationwide Michelin Guide inspections.
Michelin is not just about fine dining, but also recognising excellence in the value segment. Just before the awards ceremony, the winners of the Bib Gourmand awards were announced, which highlight establishments that offer “exceptional cooking at good value.” From glitzy restaurants to beloved street vendors, the awards celebrated the full spectrum of Thai cuisine.
Following the awards ceremony, the complete Michelin Guide Thailand 2025 listings will be made available via the official Michelin Guide website and on the Michelin Guide mobile app (iOS and Android), which allows travellers to locate every restaurant and hotel that has been selected for special praise by the guide.
The awards successfully demonstrated that Thai cuisine is one of the richest and most popular aspects of travel to the kingdom. Regardless of location, budget and personal taste, there’s always something new to try in Thailand!
