Vietnam tourism industry promotes green transformation towards sustainable development
Vietnam’s tourism sector is striving to speed up green transformation with the ultimate goal of sustainable development, involving State agencies, businesses and localities. According to Dr. Nguyen Anh Tuan, Director of the Tourism Development Research Institute under the Vietnam National Authority of Tourism (VNAT), tourism is an economic sector so naturally, tourism should take the lead in implementing green transformation following the national strategy for green growth project approved by the Prime Minister.

European tourists favour Vietnam for summer getaways
According to data from Agoda in April, Vietnam witnessed a 66% increase in searches from the group, following Malaysia with 89% and Japan with 71%. Agoda’s country director for Vietnam Vu Ngoc Lam noted that this reflects Vietnam’s growing allure, with an increasing number of European tourists choosing the nation as their summer holiday destination. European countries with the highest searches for travel to Vietnam last month included France, Germany, the UK, the Netherlands and Spain.

Northern localities team up to attract more tourists
Northern provinces and cities have shown fruitful cooperation in creating various tourism products, to attract more visitors and encourage holidaymakers to extend their stay, thus helping with tourism development nationwide. Tourism in the north has bounced back strongly since the COVID-19 pandemic was brought under control, especially in 2023. In 2023, Vietnam’ tourism revenue was estimated at US$1.5 billion, surging 52.5% from the previous year, proving the effectiveness of travel stimulation policies of provinces and cities, including those in the north.

Survey reveals travel trends for summertime
The Outbox Company, a leading market research and data analytics firm specialising in hospitality and tourism across Asia, on 23 May released its report titled ‘Vietnamese Outbound Travel Trends – Summer 2024’. According to the report, the outbound travel sentiment score for the Vietnamese market reached 124.9 points, on par with the average for the Asian one. Within Southeast Asia, Vietnam, surpassing Thailand and Malaysia, trails only behind Singapore and Indonesia. Despite economic challenges, the country’s outbound tourism market continues to demonstrate resilience and positive growth potential.
