Three Vietnamese destinations receive ASEAN Clean Tourist City Awards
05 February 2024 | Written by Chris Alexander

Hue, Vung Tau, and Quy Nhon have been awarded the ASEAN Clean Tourist City Awards 2024, recognized for their commitment to cleanliness, managing waste, and promoting environmental awareness.

The award ceremony is part of the ASEAN Tourism Forum 2024, held in the Laos capital Vientiane, from Jan. 22 – 27.

These three destinations have been honored with the ASEAN Clean Tourism City award before. Quy Nhon earned the award in 2020, while Vung Tau and Hue have each claimed the award three times previously.

The recognition was based on 108 criteria across seven main categories: environmental management, cleanliness, waste management, awareness-building regarding environmental protection and cleanliness, the presence of green spaces, health safety, urban safety, and security, as well as the quality of tourism infrastructure and facilities.

Hue, the former capital of Vietnam under the Nguyen Dynasty, the last feudal rulers of the country, is celebrated for its royal mausoleums and historical heritage sites. Meanwhile, Vung Tau, located about 125 kilometers from Ho Chi Minh City, stands as a cherished weekend getaway in southern Vietnam, appreciated for its beaches and warm waters.

Situated 620 kilometers from Saigon, Quy Nhon has gained popularity among tourists in Vietnam for its coastal charm.

Some of the top things to do in Quy Nhon include watching the sun come up on Hoang Hau Beach or sampling the shrimp pancakes.

This year with the theme “Quality and Responsible Tourism—Sustaining ASEAN Future”, the forum seeks to enhance collaboration in continually enhancing ASEAN tourism products to attract more international tourists.
