PANORAMA FOUNDATION WAKATOBI

WASTE MANAGEMENT PROJECT

Panorama Destination joined forces with the Nature Conservancy to set up a waste management project in Wakatobi.

Wakatobi National Park (WNP) archipelago is located at the southeast tip of Sulawesi Island, eastern Indonesia in the heart of the Coral Triangle. The island has become a magnetic tourism destination due to its abundant species of tropical coral reefs. As the number of tourist is growing, the garbage volume in the area is increasing as well. This situation might undermine the tourism activities and natural ecosystem. Therefore, it is highly important to deploy effective ways in managing the waste, as well as processing it into economically valuable goods.

Funds raised for the Wakatobi project will go directly into sustainable initiatives in the region, including socialisation, training regarding waste management; and examples of agriculture using organic fertilizers produced from waste management, rather than from chemicals.
