Ministry of Tourism Promotes Sustainable Tourism in 2026  

Indonesia’s Ministry of Tourism has urged stakeholders in the tourism industry to redouble efforts towards quality tourism development, implementation and practical central approach for sustainable national tourism development. This activity, according to the Assistant Deputy for Strategic Management of the Ministry, Gusti Ayu Dewi Hendriyani, is intended to provide superior tourist experiences and ensure positive economic, social and environmental impacts

Indonesia to Strengthen Bilateral Ties With China in 2026  

Indonesia has initiated a promotion campaign for tourism directed mostly toward Chinese tourists, which is a clear sign of a strong commitment to reinforce the tourism connection between Indonesia and China and to increase the number of visitors from the largest outbound market in the world. According to tourism officials, this strategy not only reflects the need to make the inbound tourism flows more diverse but also to take advantage of the rapidly recovering outbound travel demand from China to support Indonesia’s ambitious visitor targets for 2026.

Bali Sees Record Growth in International Tourism  

By December 2025, Bali welcomed 7.05 million foreign tourists; a 600,000 increase compared to the same period in 2024. Bali Governor Koster has emphasised that, a despite a recent dip in domestic visitors, the island remains busy and economically active due to the influx of international tourists. This growth in foreign tourism is expected to bring substantial economic benefits to the region, especially for the hospitality and service sectors.

Labuan Bajo Boat Tours Temporarily Suspended  

Indonesia has temporarily closed Padar and Komodo islands in Komodo National Park in East Nusa Tenggara to tourists due to risks from extreme weather conditions. The decision was announced by the Labuan Bajo Harbourmaster and Port Authority Office (KSOP) following a tourist boat accident on the evening of 26 December 2025 and adverse weather observations recorded at the Padar Island monitoring station. The small tourist boat KM Putri Sakinah was carrying tourists from Komodo Island to Padar Island when its engine broke down and it subsequently sank in waters around Padar.
