A Message From Panorama Destination Malaysia:
Greetings from Kuala Lumpur!
As we move into the second quarter of 2026, Malaysia’s tourism sector continues to show strong momentum, supported by strategic developments and growing international interest. Sarawak remains a key highlight, with the state targeting 5 million visitors by 2026 through a dynamic mix of events, nature-based experiences and long-term destination development. This reflects Malaysia’s broader ambition under the Visit Malaysia 2026 campaign to position the country as a diverse, high-value tourism destination.
Recent Hari Raya Eid celebrations further demonstrated Malaysia’s commitment to enhancing visitor experiences, with coordinated welcome events held across nine major airports nationwide. These festive initiatives created a warm and memorable arrival experience for both domestic and international travellers, reinforcing Malaysia’s reputation for hospitality and cultural vibrancy.
Malaysia offers a vibrant calendar of events throughout April, highlighted by major industry gatherings such as the MATTA Fair in Kuala Lumpur, and a range of cultural festivals and performances across the country. From traditional celebrations like Vaisakhi to immersive cultural showcases in Sarawak, the month ahead presents an excellent opportunity for visitors to experience Malaysia’s rich multicultural identity.
Encouragingly, emerging markets continue to gain traction. Tourism flows from Central Asia are on the rise, with Uzbekistan recording a significant increase in visitors to Malaysia, driven by improved connectivity, growing interest in halal and medical tourism, and strengthened cultural ties. This signals strong potential for further market diversification in the months ahead.
At the same time, the global aviation landscape remains dynamic, with ongoing geopolitical tensions impacting flight routes and travel patterns across Europe, Asia and the Middle East. In response, Malaysia is proactively adapting its tourism strategy—placing greater emphasis on regional and Asia-Pacific markets, while continuing to promote eco-tourism, domestic travel and flexible travel options to maintain resilience and competitiveness.
Looking ahead, Malaysia offers a vibrant calendar of experiences in April, with Hari Raya festivities continuing throughout the month alongside cultural celebrations, food events and city-wide activities across Kuala Lumpur, Penang and beyond.
We remain optimistic about the months ahead and look forward to welcoming more travellers to experience the diversity, culture and natural beauty that Malaysia has to offer.
Warmest wishes,
Panorama Destination Malaysia
