August is one of the most exciting times to experience Indonesia, as the country comes alive with cultural celebrations, spectacular natural beauty and the warm hospitality that has made the archipelago one of Asia’s most sought-after destinations. As the peak of the dry season continues, visitors can enjoy sunny skies and ideal conditions for exploring Indonesia’s diverse islands, from pristine beaches and volcanic landscapes to vibrant cities and ancient cultural treasures.
This month, Indonesia proudly celebrates its 81st Independence Day on 17 August, with the official ceremony taking place in Jakarta. Throughout the month, cities and towns across the archipelago will host Independence Festivals and Carnivals featuring colourful parades, traditional games, cultural performances and community celebrations. In North Sulawesi, the internationally renowned Tomohon International Flower Festival (TIFF) returns from 7–12 August, transforming the city into a spectacular display of floral artistry and cultural creativity.
Our destination focus this month includes North Sumatra, Java, Bali, Lombok, Sulawesi and Flores, each offering its own distinctive experiences. For travellers seeking adventures beyond the well-known highlights, we recommend discovering the cultural traditions of Toraja Land in South Sulawesi, encountering orangutans in Bukit Lawang National Park in North Sumatra, witnessing sunrise over Mount Bromo and the remarkable Ijen Crater in East Java, or exploring the breath-taking marine landscapes and iconic wildlife of Komodo National Park in Flores.
We are also delighted to announce the launch of our new Wake in Bali experience this month, offering visitors another unique way to discover one of Indonesia’s most popular destinations. Meanwhile, our commitment to delivering exceptional service continues through professional development, with two members of the Panorama Destination Indonesia team recently completing Travel Consultant Training organised by the Jakarta Tourism Board.
August remains one of the busiest periods of the year for inbound tourism, and we are pleased to be welcoming large numbers of European families exploring Sumatra, Java, Bali, Lombok and Flores. Booking levels remain strong and are expected to match the excellent results achieved during the 2025 high season, reflecting Indonesia’s continued appeal as a destination for meaningful, multi-generational travel.
