1.Semarapura Festival
Where: Klungkung, Bali
When: 28 April – 1 May 2025
Commemorating the 1908 Puputan Klungkung battle against Dutch colonial forces, this festival features traditional dances like Baris Jangkang, historical reenactments, art exhibitions and culinary delights. Centred around the historic Kerta Gosa Pavilion, it offers a deep dive into Balinese history and culture.
2. Mekotek Ritual
Where: Munggu Village, Mengwi, Bali
When: 3 May 2025
A sacred ritual held every 210 days during Kuningan, where hundreds of men carry long wooden poles in a simulated battle to ward off misfortune and bring protection to the community. The event is both a spiritual offering and a test of strength and agility.
3. Bali Spirit Festival
Where: Ubud, Bali
When: 7–11 May 2025
An international celebration of yoga, dance, music and holistic healing. The festival offers immersive workshops, live music performances, and discussions on conscious living, rooted in the Balinese philosophy of Tri Hita Karana—harmony between humans, nature and the divine.
4. Ubud Open Studios
Where: Ubud, Bali
When: 22–25 May 2025
An annual event granting exclusive access to Ubud’s most talented artists and their studios. Visitors can engage in conversations with painters, sculptors and designers, gaining insight into their creative processes through guided studio tours, live demonstrations and hands-on workshops.
5. Comic Frontier (Comifuro)
Where: Indonesia Convention Exhibition (ICE), BSD City, Tangerang
When: 24–25 May 2025
Jakarta’s bi-annual dōjinshi convention is a celebration of comics, anime and pop culture. The event includes a marketplace, cosplay shows, music performances and industry discussions. It usually attracts over 20,000 attendees.
6. Ubud Food Festival
Where: Ubud, Bali
When: 30 May – 1 June 2025
A culinary celebration bringing together top chefs, food entrepreneurs and culinary storytellers to showcase the best of Indonesian cuisine. Expect live cooking demos, food tastings, panel discussions and interactive workshops highlighting the stories behind the dishes.
7. Java Jazz Festival
Where: Jakarta International Expo (JIExpo), Jakarta
When: 30 May – 1 June 2025
One of the world’s largest jazz festivals celebrates its 20th anniversary in 2025. This year, it features a diverse lineup of both local and international artists, offering a rich musical experience in the heart of Jakarta.
