Indonesian Tourism Exceeds 2025 Targets  

Tourism Minister Widiyanti Putri Wardhana reported that Indonesia’s tourism industry delivered strong results in 2025, with foreign tourist arrivals expected to surpass the government’s target of 15 million. Speaking before Commission VII of the House of Representatives (DPR) on Wednesday, Wardhana noted that as of November 2025, foreign arrivals had reached 13.98 million, marking a 10.44 percent year-on-year increase. “When Statistics Indonesia (BPS) finalises December data this February, total arrivals are projected to reach 15.3 million,” she said.

Global Awards Boost Confidence in 2026  

Indonesia’s tourism industry secured dozens of international awards in January 2026, highlighting growing global confidence in the country’s destinations, hospitality standards, and sustainability efforts. Tourism Minister Widiyanti Putri Wardhana confirmed that Indonesia won accolades across 32 categories from 25 international organizations, according to a ministry statement issued in Jakarta.

Minister Unveils Future Tourism Strategy  

Indonesia’s Minister of Tourism, Widiyanti Putri Wardhana, highlighted achievements and future strategy of Indonesia’s tourism development at a forum organised by the Harvard Indonesian Student Association (HISA) in Jakarta on Tuesday, 20 January 2026. The Minister, in her presentation, emphasised that Indonesia’s tourism draws strength as an archipelagic nation with more than 17,000 islands, rich biodiversity, and over 6,100 tourism villages rich in strong traditions and local wisdom.

Tourism Villages Development Continues  

Indonesia is advancing a new policy framework aimed at strengthening Indonesia tourism villages through closer integration with cooperative-based economic structures, reinforcing the country’s commitment to inclusive and community-led tourism development. The initiative is being implemented through coordination between the Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy and the Ministry of Cooperatives and Small and Medium Enterprises, linking tourism villages with locally established cooperatives under the Red and White Village Cooperatives programme.
