Indonesia steps up efforts to attract the Indian market

Indonesia used ITB India 2026 in Mumbai (1–3 September) to promote destinations including Bali, Borobudur, Lake Toba, Labuan Bajo, Raja Ampat, Lombok, Flores, Bunaken and Tanjung Puting. The Tourism Ministry targeted 6,600 potential visitor trips worth Rp58.45 billion through B2B meetings, describing India as a priority source market because of its growing middle class and demand for international travel. Jakarta separately used the event to position itself as an urban, MICE, shopping and culinary destination.

Indonesia tackles rising airfares with bundled tourism packages

On 20 September, the Tourism Ministry announced measures aimed at protecting tourism growth from higher domestic airfares. The government is developing bundled packages combining flights, accommodation and local tours, while coordinating with the Transport Ministry on ticket prices. The issue has become more pressing after the permitted fuel surcharge for domestic economy flights increased in September, with the change expected to lift average fares by roughly 8%. For inbound operators, this matters because domestic flight costs directly affect the competitiveness of multi-island itineraries and efforts to disperse international visitors beyond Bali.
