Indonesian Tourism Set for Record-breaking 2025  

The Indonesian tourism sector is anticipated to bounce back strongly in 2025. Projections from the World Travel & Tourism Council (WTTC) indicate international tourist expenditure reaching 344 trillion rupiah (approximately €20 billion). This suggests a significant resurgence; it’s about a 12% climb beyond 2019’s pre-pandemic peak, signalling a real vote of confidence in Indonesia as a leading destination for travellers.

Tourism Ministry Initiates Safety Review and Retraining After Rinjani Incident  

Indonesia’s Ministry of Tourism (Kemenpar) has once again emphasised the importance of adhering to Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) in extreme tourism activities. This reminder comes after the incident of Juliana Marins, a hiker from Brazil, who fell off a cliff at Mount Rinjani, Rinjani National Park, West Nusa Tenggara, on Saturday, 21 June 2025. “This incident reminds us that every extreme tourist destination carries serious risks,” said Minister of Tourism Widiyanti Putri Wardhana in an official statement on Saturday, 28 June 2025.

Sarawak is intensifying its drive to attract more corporate meetings and corporate incentives (CMCI) tourism from Indonesia through a series of high-level engagements held in Jakarta. These efforts form part of a broader campaign to position Sarawak as a leading destination for business events across Southeast Asia. With direct air links now connecting Jakarta to Kuching, the region is actively fostering new collaborations with Indonesian travel professionals and corporate stakeholders to drive inbound travel and support regional economic growth.

New Adelaide-Bali Flights Boost Australian Arrivals to Indonesia  

The Indonesian Ministry of Tourism has welcomed a new direct flight route from AirAsia connecting Adelaide to Denpasar, Bali, which officially began on 26 June 2025. The Tourism Ministry is hopeful that the new route will significantly improve international tourist access, especially from Australia, to Bali and other prime destinations across Indonesia.
