Melaka named official venue for launch of Visit Malaysia 2026 campaign
The historic city of Melaka has been designated as the official venue for the launch of Visit Malaysia Year 2026 (VMY2026). Tourism, Arts and Culture Minister Datuk Seri Tiong King Sing said Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim discussed and approved the decision to select Melaka. “The launch of VMY2026 will coincide with the celebrations of World Tourism Day 2025 (WTD 2025) and the World Tourism Conference (WTC 2025), both of which are set to take place in September of this year.”

Sarawak, a state in East Malaysia, is embarking on an ambitious journey to boost its tourism sector, with the introduction of its own airline, Air Borneo, and a new airport to cater to growing demand. This initiative has led to a significant increase in Indian tourist arrivals, with over 1 million visitors in 2024—a 47% rise compared to 2019. Tourism Malaysia is focusing on niche products such as shopping, golfing, luxury tourism, theme parks and honeymoon packages to attract more Indian travellers. The visa-free policy has also shortened travel decision-making periods, resulting in a rise in last-minute bookings.
