There’s plenty of good news coming out of Vietnam at the moment. Here are a few stories making the headlines:
Vietnam’s tourism star is on the rise
Vietnam now ranks as the third-most-visited country in Southeast Asia, with 17.5 million international arrivals in 2024, edging ahead of Singapore. It follows Malaysia, which claims 25 million visitors, and Thailand, at the top spot with 35 million. Those figures make Vietnam the regional leader in terms of its tourism recovery pace, a metric that continues to track — five years after the Covid-19 pandemic shut down the world — how much tourism business each nation has recouped from its 2019 baseline.

Vietnam tourism recovery the highest in Southeast Asia
Vietnam’s tourist arrivals after the Covid-19 pandemic recovered to 98 percent in 2024. This is the highest figure in Southeast Asia. Followed by Malaysia in second place with a recovery rate of 94 percent, Thailand 88 percent, Singapore 86 percent, Indonesia 86 percent, and the Philippines 72 percent. The ranking is based on data from the Secretariat of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) quoted by the Vietnam National Tourism Administration.

Unlocking the potential of coastal tourism
Việt Nam’s 3,260-kilometre coastline, dotted with pristine beaches and over 3,000 islands, holds immense potential for tourism development. With breath-taking landscapes, rich marine biodiversity and a rapidly growing hospitality sector, the country is well-positioned to become a global leader in coastal tourism. Recognising the sector’s importance, authorities are rolling out policies and infrastructure projects to foster sustainable growth while ensuring environmental protection.

Vietnam the favourite luxury destination for Indian tourists
Vietnam has become the newest hotspot for Indian travellers in Southeast Asia, overtaking Thailand in popularity. The “land of the ascending dragon” is rapidly emerging as the region’s fastest-growing tourist destination, creating significant competition for domestic hotspots like Goa. In 2024, Vietnam welcomed a record 17.5 million global visitors, marking it as the fastest-growing tourism economy in Southeast Asia. Impressively, in the first two months of 2025, the country has already seen nearly 4 million international visitors, reflecting a remarkable 30.2% increase over the same period last year.
