Warm spring greetings from Vietnam,
It is already March, and the blossoms are slowly fading. The yellow apricot flowers in the South are no longer at their brightest, and the peach blossoms in the North are gently falling from the branches. There is a festive feeling in the air, as families continue to gather, share familiar dishes and exchange New Year wishes.
March is a wonderful time to visit Vietnam – we are still enjoying the extended Lunar New Year season, when spring festivals and spiritual ceremonies continue to bring colour and meaning to communities across the country. Although the peak of Tết has passed, the festive atmosphere lingers — quieter and more reflective, yet still deeply rooted in tradition.
This month offers visitors a unique window into Vietnam’s cultural life. The Perfume Pagoda Festival continues to draw pilgrims travelling by boat along the Yen Stream before hiking to Huong Tich Cave for worship and scenic views. In Bac Ninh, the Lim Festival celebrates quan họ folk singing, a UNESCO-recognised example of local heritage, while the First Full Moon Festival sees temples in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City filled with prayer ceremonies and lantern displays, with Hoi An’s Ancient Town glowing beautifully along the river. International Women’s Day on 8 March is also widely celebrated nationwide, honouring the contributions of women through gatherings and appreciation events.
Our destination focus this month is Mai Chau, a refreshing rural escape just a few hours from Hanoi. Surrounded by rice fields and gentle mountain landscapes, it offers a slower rhythm of life where visitors can walk through local villages, cycle along peaceful country lanes and enjoy simple, authentic moments that reveal the quiet beauty of northern Vietnam.
