TAT Launches ‘5 Must Do in Thailand’ Strategy

Thailand is redefining how travellers experience the Kingdom, with the Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) unveiling its new “5 Must Do in Thailand” strategy: an initiative designed to inspire deeper, more meaningful journeys across the country. Launched at the Thailand Tourism Festival 2026 in Bangkok, the strategy reflects a broader shift towards experiential travel, encouraging visitors to engage more closely with Thailand’s culture, communities and local identities.

At its core, the framework highlights five key pillars that define the Thai travel experience. “Must Taste” showcases the country’s diverse regional cuisines, while “Must Try” invites visitors to participate in hands-on cultural activities. “Must Buy” promotes locally made products and crafts, supporting community livelihoods, while “Must Seek” directs travellers towards lesser-known destinations beyond the traditional hotspots. Finally, “Must See” celebrates Thailand’s signature festivals, performances, and cultural spectacles, bringing the country’s rich heritage to life.

From Discovery to Experience

The “5 Must Do” strategy represents a shift in how Thailand positions itself on the global stage. Rather than focusing solely on iconic landmarks, the emphasis is now on immersive, experience-led travel, where food, culture, creativity and local engagement form the foundation of each journey.

This approach is brought to life through the Thailand Tourism Festival itself, where visitors can explore the country through curated regional zones. Each zone offers a sensory journey across Thailand’s diverse regions, combining cuisine, crafts, performances and storytelling to inspire further travel beyond the event.

Driving Domestic Travel and Community Impact

A key objective of the strategy is to stimulate domestic tourism while creating new opportunities for local communities. By promoting regional identities and encouraging travellers to explore lesser-visited destinations, the initiative helps distribute tourism benefits more evenly across the country.

This aligns with Thailand’s wider tourism vision, which places increasing emphasis on sustainability, cultural preservation and inclusive economic growth. Initiatives such as the Bio-Circular-Green (BCG) economy model and “Zero Waste to Landfills” practices at major events highlight the country’s commitment to responsible tourism development.

A More Meaningful Way to Travel Thailand

As global travel trends continue to evolve, Thailand’s “5 Must Do” strategy positions the destination at the forefront of experiential tourism in Asia. Whether it’s sampling regional dishes, learning traditional crafts, discovering hidden gems or attending vibrant cultural festivals, travellers are encouraged to go beyond the surface and engage more deeply with the Kingdom.

In doing so, Thailand is not only enhancing the visitor experience; it is also strengthening the connection between tourism, culture, and community. The result is a more meaningful, more sustainable way to explore one of Southeast Asia’s most dynamic destinations.
