Visit Malaysia 2026: Catalyst for Unprecedented Growth

Malaysia is set to launch the long-awaited Visit Malaysia 2026 (VM2026) campaign; a comprehensive tourism initiative, aimed at attracting 35.6 million international visitors and generating RM147.1 billion in revenue by 2026. This ambitious campaign focuses on enhancing Malaysia’s global appeal through sustainable tourism and enriched travel experiences.

In preparation for VM2026, Tourism Malaysia has partnered with Mastercard to transform the traveller experience. This collaboration includes the development of the Travel Malaysia app – a one-stop solution offering personalised travel content and exclusive offers, set to launch this year. Additionally, Mastercard will introduce its Priceless programme to Malaysia, which will provide unique experiences that highlight the country’s diverse attractions.

To improve accessibility and connectivity, the Malaysian government is investing in transportation infrastructure. Initiatives include the ‘Railway to See Malaysia’ campaign, which will promote train travel through the addition of 10 express train routes this year, and the implementation of contactless payment systems for seamless travel experiences.

As part of VM2026, Malaysia is also expanding its tourism packages to include adventure tourism, medical tourism, eco-tourism and cultural tourism. These offerings are intended to attract high-value tourists in search of unique and sustainable experiences, by showcasing the nation’s rich cultural diversity and natural beauty.

Malaysia is also promoting green tourism investments such as eco-friendly hotels powered by solar energy and conservation-driven tourism projects in national parks. The establishment of Special Tourism Investment Zones (STIZs) offers incentives for luxury hotel developments and integrated tourism projects, ensuring that local environments and communities benefit from tourism growth.

With these strategic initiatives, Malaysia is poised to become a leading green global tourism destination by 2026, offering travellers a blend of cultural heritage, modern attractions and sustainable, responsible travel experiences.
